As Destiny 2 fans mourn the game’s final update, Bungie’s former community manager has blasted players fixated on comparing its player count with fledgling extraction shooter Marathon — and said that the company’s current issues began long before its arrival, as well as Sony’s acquisition.
Bungie recently announced that it is ending ongoing content releases for Destiny 2 on June 9, with the Sony-owned studio shifting to new projects. Bungie’s issues with its storied sci-fi shooter, Destiny 2, began around the time of the last summer’s Edge of Fate expansion, which reportedly underperformed. The decision to pull the plug was allegedly made „earlier this year“ after it decided not to relaunch the franchise as „Destiny Infinity.“
Bungie is opening the gates to Marathon next week and letting players jump in on the action, free of cost.
